Papua New Guinea, often known as ” the land of a thousand tribes” and the “land of the unexpected”, is one of the most culturally diverse nations in the Pacific region. While it’s film industry is still a developing stage, it is steadily growing through independent film makers, cultural institutions, and emerging creative initiatives. This evolving landscape presents significant opportunities for structured development, training, and international collaboration within the creative sector.
NAFA Group (Native Arts and Fashion Academy Group) is a Papua New Guinea-based creative and educational initiative dedicated to developing arts education across Performing Arts, Expressive Arts, Martial Arts, Music, Fashion, and Film. It’s vision is to strengthen and promote art, culture and creative industries in PNG by building sustainable pathways from training to professional practice.
Within NAFA Group, NAFA Productions serves as the dedicated film and media division. focused on developing and producing cinematic works rooted in Papua New Guinea’s stories, histories, and cultural identity. The division is committed to elevating PNG narratives through feature films and collaborative international projects while maintaining strong cultural authenticity and cinematic quality.
NAFA Productions also places strong emphasis on training and mentorship, using it’s productions as practical learning platforms for emerging Papua New Guinea creatives across key film disciplines. Through initiatives and collaborations, including engagement with international filmmakers such as Dr. Bijukumar Damodaran, NAFA continues to support cross-cultural exchange and industry capacity building.
